Maite Parejo Sousa, Head of G37 Despacho Internacional in Madrid and part of The Guernica Group, will be participating in the event “The Indelible Memory of Crimes” at the 2018 International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights in Geneva.
Date: Thursday 15 March 2018
Time: 6.15 pm
Venue: 1st floor, Espace Pitoëff, Rue de Carouge 52, 1205 Geneva
The event, co-presented with TRIAL International and the University of Geneva, includes the screening of the film “The Silence of Others“:
To facilitate its transition to democracy after Franco, Spain decided to issue an amnesty for those guilty of crimes during the Franquist period. But time does not lessen the pain for victims or their families. It sharpens it. Recourse to the concept of “universal jurisdiction”, which allows nations to prosecute serious crimes regardless of the country where these crimes were committed, has helped to end the impunity that some perpetrators had taken advantage of for too long. They are now nearly five hundred Spaniards united in a collective complaint in an effort to repair an unbearable injustice.
The Silence of Others, by Almudena Carracedo and Robert Bahar, chronicles the long and difficult struggle of the victims in their request for reparation, from Spain to Argentina”.
